About
Hi! My name is Karina and I am a senior at Emma Willard School. I started taking French in seventh grade, and since then, I’ve always been fascinated by the language. Having exhausted Emma’s course offerings in French last year, I’m now pursuing a Signature project in the language. Additionally, science has always been my favorite subject, and I’ve always been particularly interested in biology and chemistry. Having taken many classes in these two subjects throughout high school, I knew for certain that I wanted to merge my love for French with my interest in science, which led me to my Signature project.
Another inspiration for my project came from my trip to France in the spring of my freshman year. This trip was part of an exchange program, through which I stayed with a French host family outside of Paris for two weeks. Aside from visiting various tourist destinations around Paris, I also attended a day of school with my exchange student, and it was here that I had the chance to experience a French science class. I remember being intrigued by the similarities of the scientific vocabulary used in both English and French, and that is something that I wanted to incorporate into my project.
