This month, I have continued working on the presentation that I will use for my lesson at the end of the year, including essential questions and scientific vocabulary in French. I’ve also found an article written in a French journal on the ethics of modifying the human genome, which is the source that I am currently reading through. I hope to use this article as the starting point for creating discussion points for the final piece of my project.
I feel that I have been a bit behind on my Signature work this month, as I’ve had a lot of work to do for my college applications, so my goal for December is to catch up and get back on track with my timeline.

Early this month, I finalized the topic for my project. I will genetic modification and its underlying ethics in French. Since then, I have been working on researching the topic of genetic modification through French resources. Most recently, I’ve been watching a lecture given by a Swiss-French biologist named Denis Duboule on the topic of genetic modification and transhumanism. However, I’m currently facing the challenge of not being able to find research papers written in French, as English is the most common language in which scientific research is written.
I have also started creating the lesson portion of my project, beginning with the basics of genetics. This part has been fairly straightforward, as I am just applying my knowledge of biology and creating a presentation in French. My goal for November is to begin exploring the ethics of genetic modification in French, and expand my project to include CRISPR. Below is a tentative timeline for my project:
October: finalize project topic, collect resources, begin research November: continue research, gain a full understanding of my topic & vocabulary associated with it December: complete initial research, begin compiling background information January: complete any final research, continue compiling background information & vocabulary February: begin working on final presentation March: continue working on final presentation, explore any other related topics that come up (in French) April: finish final presentation, continue exploring related topics |
